Qualification levels (Whats the difference?)

Sunday, 20 June 2010 12:31 Published in EMS Info

Currently there are 2 training / career paths, namely:

1) Short Courses (BAA / AEA / CCA)
or
2) Tertiary Courses (ECT / NDIP / B-tech - ECP)

The HPCSA has over the past several years has begun to move away  from the short course structure and begin to implement teritary level qualifications. The reason for this - to improve quality of EMS personnel on the roads. Please read our News & Article's section, on several media releases pertaining to the changes in the EMS.

Training can be either offered through a training college - who offer the BAA / AEA / CCA qualifications (what is BAA / AEA / CCA ?) or through a tertiary facility offering a 4 year degree as a Paramedic (ECP - Emergency Care Practioner) or (ECT - Emergenct Care Technician).
